Marlise Rijks

Marlise Rijks is a postdoc researcher at Leiden University, specialized in art and knowledge of the Early Modern period, in particular of the Low Countries. She is currently working at the NWO-project ‘A New History of Fishes: A Long-term Approach to Fishes in Science and Culture, 1550-1880’. She obtained her PhD (2016) at Ghent University with a dissertation titled ‘Catalysts of Knowledge. Artists’ and Artisans’ Collections in Early Modern Antwerp’. This was a joint-project with the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. She has also worked at Utrecht University, the Centrum Rubenianum in Antwerp, and the Huygens ING in The Hague, and held fellowships at the Science History Institute in Philadelphia and the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel.
